Here in this post, I am going to discuss my favourite manga of all time Vagabond, and why it’s a must-read for every manga fan.
The series written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue tells a fictionalized story about legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi and his path to becoming the strongest swordsman in Japan
When I first read this manga when I was 19, the plot, the characters, and the artwork utterly captivated me. The manga has a philosophical theme that includes ideas about being your best self, the value of friends, and discovering your purpose. The artwork also impacted me with how striking and beautiful it was when I first read it and how the style synched with the story. After looking back at it, I can genuinely say it is the best artwork of any manga I have seen.
As far as manga characters go, Miyamoto Musashi is one of my favourites. One of the most intriguing adventures you will ever read is about his quest to become the strongest. He went from being a brash swordsman to a modest, almost enlightened figure as the story progressed, which is an interesting development to observe. Also, you get to learn about his upbringing and how his father’s erratic behaviour inspired him to strive to surpass him as a swordsman, which led to his ambition to be the strongest.
The most important support system for Musashi is his childhood friends Otsu and Matahachi. You get to observe how he interacts with them and how that influences the way you regard him as a person. The story of Matahachi, who also has a journey of his own, is another intriguing one to read.

I have never seen a manga with better artwork than this one. Takehiko Inoue’s artwork is incredibly realistic, especially in how accurately he can depict the landscape so that it all appears genuine (a close example being Berserk). Your attention is immediately drawn to the character’s body hair, wrinkles, and other characteristics since the artist realistically renders them. The ability of Takehiko Inoue as an artist is evident in this manga, which is so good that sometimes I can only stare at the pages in awe. The manga has also motivated me to start creating art of my own.
In conclusion, I recommend Vagabond to all Manga readers out there. Although the manga is currently on hiatus, at the moment, it is still a fantastic read that you should enjoy. Vagabond, which has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, Takehiko Inoue indeed created a masterpiece. I sincerely hope you guys give this one a shot because you will certainly not regret it.
